Now it is official, XANG "Destiny of a Dream" is released! The Band has made a superb instrumental concept album. Here a short description of their music by (Christian Ax?) - Sweden: "It's progressive for sure, but not in the usual hasty style. Xang progresses slowly and accomplish a splendid live performance. Truly innovative and entertaining with many complex rhythms which constantly changes, tight and technical. Great guitar and bass work along with the strong keyboard sound makes this one of the best intstrumental demos I've heard in a long time. Xang will surely accomplish something really spectacular on their full-length album released."

Patrick has been raving about this French group for some time... I just got my copy of their new (first) studio album 'Destiny of a Dream'... now I know why Patrick has been so enthusiastic... these guys are great! Keys, guitar, drums and bass... very clean, polished and well-balanced... dramatic, powerful and emotional... all instrumental... crackling melody and theme development... reminiscent of Arena and Eloy. A definite e-progpick!!

XANG are a band from the north of France, founded 1995. "Destiny of a dream" is their first studioalbum. XANG play great instrumental progrock that primarily serves the song instead of the skills of the musicians. The compositions are so atmospheric and varied that you don't miss any vocals during the entire 62 minutes. This album offers progtracks with bluesrock flair (Misgivings, The choice), artrock (prediction beginning as soft artrock and developing to a dramatic fireworks, the beautifully sad piano-track The dream. In the end three great long-tracks are waiting for your ears: Bitterness, The choice - two tracks with great keyboard/guitar-runs, freejazzin' parts, progmetal elements, dramatic groovin' parts, riff staccati - and The light, beginning with a J.S.Bach alike organ intro, then becoming a mysterious, athmospheric progrocksong. Overall a highly recommendable instrumental progrock album. During some parts the e-guitar sounds a bit annoying and too dominant ... a mo!  re defensive guitar sound would have been wiser during that few minutes.

Not sure if this all-instrumental quartet is French or Swiss (French), but man can they smoke! Xang plays hard-driving progressive/symphonic rock with virtuosic leads shared by melodically lyrical guitarist Antoine Duhem and multi-keyboardis Vincent Hooge. Destiny of a Dream is mostly ensemble-based, with occasional soloing and dramatic, dynamic changeups. Check out "The Prediction" for an escalating series of mind-blowing symphonic surges - exciting stuff! This is not extraneous chopzilla, mind you. Plenty of notes certainly are flying about, but it's all with sense of purpose amidst sharply defined arrangements. There's also a welcome breather here and there as well, such as the eloquent piano-based "The Dream". "The Light" at 13-plus minutes, closes this gem of a disc, with a portentous pipe organ intro that segues into a multi-hued tapestry of playful keyboard/guitar interplay. Tempos ebb and flow, climaxing in stately symphonic splendor. Certainly, one of 1999's smartest instrumental offerings.

A really strong debut CD from a French band, formed in 1995, called XANG. Their all instrumental album shows a band of excellent musicians who plays progressive rock that is sometimes close to progressive metal. It's complex, sometimes quite, sometimes loud and always very intriguing, like a mix between Arena, Dream Theater, Flamborough Head, Genesis, IQ, Lands End, Marillion, Pendragon, Rush and Spock's Beard, but all instrumental. It's very hard to do an instrumental album that keeps the listener's attention throughout the whole album. I think that XANG has succeeded though with their strong guitar riffs and melodies. The CD also has a beautiful 24-page CD-booklet. I had heard a lot about XANG in discussions on Internet before I got the album. All the rumours had been unanimous that this is a great album, and all I can do is join them in their praise. XANG have made their exit from the old Millennium in a worthy way. Eight tracks of total instrumental perfection! Recommended!

I just wanted to comment briefly on a few CD's that I've purchased recently. Xang- Destiny of a Dream: All the hype I've been hearing about this CD is certainly well justified. Fantastic CD from start to finish. It's amazing how fast an hour goes by listening to this.
