Grobschnitt Reviews

From: "Goss, Ed" <>  A couple weeks ago someone recommended that Grobschnitt's "Solar Music Live" be listened to. I think it's awesome and wonder how I missed it first time around. Somehow I ordered the shorter version CD; looks like there's an import with two more songs on it. I'm missing these two songs: "The Missing 13 Minutes" and "Vanishing Towards The East". Should I go back and get the longer import CD?

Grobschnitt is prog and really, really good. Symphonic in the early Genesis sense. My favorite album of theirs is _Jumbo_, but that's probably because it was the first thing I heard of them, with the German lyrics. It was also released with English lyrics, and the CD has both versions. The general consensus seems to be that _Solar Music Live_ is their best. Their drummer, Eroc, has several solo albums that are good, too, although his sense of humor can be a little off-putting; e.g., interrupting a lovely lyrical passage with the sound of breaking glass or covering Cream's "Pressed Rat and Warthog."

I am looking for views re Grobschnitt. I have heard some tracks through ProgRealAudio group and intended getting Solar-Music Live. But whilst in Glasgow yesterday (Fopp records for Scottish members of list) I picked up "ballermann" by Grobschnitt as it had solar-music, parts 1 and 2. Also available in the shop by the same band was an album called "Illegal" Anyone heard this? Is it worth getting?
