Forgotten Suns Reviews

Next is a Brazilian band (I believe) Forgotten Suns "Fiction Edge 1 (Ascent)". After the first song and part of the second, this becomes an excellent CD. Fresh sounding but familiar. Powerful guitars with flowing keyboards and synth's. Strong rhythm section that only makes you want more. The first song is called The Big Bang. It really just takes so long to develop that by the time it does you're ready to move on. Track two is a multiple part song that is wonderful in the classic prog tradition. Lyrics (and liner notes) in English. Highly recommended but just skip the first track and come back to it later.

And I answer: Not quite! "Forgotten Suns" is a new prog-band (first one after the 70'ies) from this small country called: Portugal!  You should have purchased the Brazilian edition of the FS's album, and that's the confusion... Just for you to know: the FS's CD is NOT on sale in their home country! :-( Not many "prog-fans" out here...

Forgotten suns Fiction edge; Neoprog from Portugal, right down symphonic. Check their 21 minute instrumental track. Check http://www.eufonia.net/html/resenas.html for a complete review.

recently, i was the lucky winner of a cd compliments of carlos lima. (thanks again, carlos). he offered me my choice of the three but as i had never heard of any of them i was taking a shot in the dark. i picked "fiction edge 1 (ascent)" by forgotten suns and boys and girls, did i luck out. this is a very fine cd. carlos discribed it as a cross between marillion and dream theater. thats true somewhat especially on the 21 minute "a journey". its an instrumental that kicks ass. overall i like to think of this as neoprog with an attitude, marillion with a hard edge. and thats not a bad think. anyway, i've only played this 3 times and expect it to grow on me more. as this is their first album, i'd say this band has a future. btw, carlos. how'd you get the cd signed?

I too have this CD and it is very, very good. Not a direct clone but neoprog with an edge!

Well, it seems that my first post generated only marginal response. That either means that y'all think the music I'm listening to sux or you think I do.  Regardless, let's try this again. I've had little time to listen so these four examples represent the CD's on my last leg to Chicago from Kansas City.
First up is Forgotten Suns. This CD is very, very good. It was recorded in Portugal so I'm assuming this band is from there although I thought I'd heard they were Brazilian. Anyway, this is not a Marillion clone. It is prog in many ways but it defines itself. The CD begins with this powerful instrumental song Big Bang.... Way cool! I can't really describe this CD. I want to call it neo-prog but I've long since forgotten just exactly what that means. How's this. It's damn good. You like classic prog, should have no problem with this band. Vocals in English and quite good.
