Given that Anglagard/Hybris was one of the best late 80's pieces of progressive music to be released and is one of the few newer releases of prog that many fans include among their classic selections (I.E. Genesis, Crimson etc), I often get people asking me what else is available in the newer prog releases like Anglagard. Well after hearing Italian band "Finisterre" I definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a companion style to Anglagard the music by Finisterre. So far I've only heard Hostsonaten which is really a solo release by Fabio Zuffanti (the main man of Finisterre). However many of the band members of Finisterre play on the album and so the album is credited as the Finisterre Project. The music is classically inspired with beautiful flute work (similiar to Anglagard), classical guitar work and mellotron, minimoogs and synthesiser. The music is very moving (like Anglagard) creating moods within the structures of each track. The small amount of vocals have a Pete Sinfield/King Crimson "Court Of..." era feel about them. By the way Hostsonaten is subtitled "a collection of autumnal dances). The other Finisterre titles are called: FINISTERE-Live ai Margini..., In Limine and the self titled first release. Apparently "In Limine" is supposed to be the best.

While drawing on the rich legacy of landmark 1970s Italian pioneers, Finisterre is a band keen to experiment and explore many different musical directions, while managing to establish a unique and recognizable identity. While their three studio albums to date have been critical and commercial successes, the band's forte lies above all in their breathtaking live performances. "Storybook" documents Finisterre's first American concert, in the Summer of 1997, at the Progfest. and the music here is as adventurous and gripping as we've been led to expect from the band. The repertoire consists of revisited and often extended versions of compositions from Finisterre's first two studio albums ("Finisterre" and "In Limine"), plus a superb cover of PFM's anthem "Altaloma.
