Let's see, the Enid are probably THE MOST symphonic band you'll ever hear and
usually (but there are exceptions) instrumental. Almost like a combination of
classical, Andrew Lloyd-Weber (the Enid can get a bit too lush at times), and
rock (with a little *r*). Can be exceedingly beautiful or gaggingly syrupy,
depending on one's mood (I lean towards *beautiful*). Get In The Region Of
Summer Stars (remixed/re-recorded version of their first album) as a starter
and move forward in time.....all their albums are at least fifty percent
good, from what I remember. It is some of the most well-written and romantic
*rock* music you will ever hear. There was a good article about them in
Expose a few issues ago.

The Enid: The rock side of this band reminds me of the English band 10 CC in
places. The classical side is another story. Robert John Godrey (main
composer in The Enid) has a very English Vaughan Williams or Benjamin
Brittain composing style to his music and I consider his compositions to be
as great as the two above composers. For some The Enid sound can be very
sugary - that I feel comes from the 10 CC feel. Robert John Godrey was
originally part of the Barclay James Harvest Orchestra (back in the early
70's). BJH were very similiar in style to the Moody Blues and had a few
albums on the Harvest Label.
From: "Craig A. Shipley" <> ...if you are going through the music of the 70s - Try and track down 'In The Region Of The Summer Stars' by THE ENID - The original 75/76 recording - NOT the 84 re recording. A classic instrumental album - Possibly my fav release of all time
