Ekseption--"Begger Julia's Time Trip" Heck, Rick Van der Linden still kicked
ass with this one in 1970....I know Ekseption has many detractors, but I dig
them. Year 2000 reissue from Pasodisc Brazil.

Subject: What's wrong with Ekseption?
Somebody mentioned Ekseption last week(-end?). For a long time I have wondered what's wrong
with them in prog circles. During the four years I have followed one or more
prog-related forums like e-prog2, I have never seen Ekseption mentioned
before now. My at the time fave prog group Focus; yes occasionally, and even
Trace a couple of times. But Ekseption? I have a hard time figuring out why.
The most obvious reason could be that they are not considered prog. But I
don't believe this is the clue. Not that I am into Ekseption, but considering
all the strange candidates that have been launched as prog during the years,
Ekseption can't be an exception. Maybe something to do with lack of own
material? Did they exclusively play "classic rock" arrangements of the big
classical composers? Now you tell me,
proggers! Christian

You hit the nail on the head with respect to my dislike of the group. In
the early days, they seemed like a rip off of the Nice, and quite frankly,
who needed a "b" version? -David Eric.

It is very easy to talk about Ekseption 30 years later, don't forget they
where one of the first progbands. There sound was very different from the
Nice and they used wind instruments. They both used the music from the big
composers but the Nice where more psychedelic and agressive. Ekseption was a
good band but the Nice was great. Gert. ps. Most of the bands these days are
rip offs!!!!

Go get um Gert, I just recently got into Ekseption. Really nice stuff. Van
der Linden guy on keys is nice. Later had band Trace, lots of organ and
piano. Brother was drummer in Focus I think. Anyway know one is really
orginal. Thank goodness for that.

Pierre was in Focus (and Brainbox), indeed. But no brother of Rick's.
