Deadwood Forest Reviews

From: "clint collins" <>
I just received a copy of "Deadwood Forest" from the Shroom label. Excellent stuff with lots of mellotron and a real "classic feel". Lots of influences by Moody Blues, Crimson and so on. I highly recommend it, however I was less than impressed with the service I've received from shroom.
In a post I did earlier today raving about a new band called Deadwood Forest, I also said I less than impressed with their record company, Shroom. My timing really sucked. Right after I logged off my snail-mail came and there were the cd's I ordered along with a nice note apologizing for the delay and even a free Shroom sampler of some really great stuff to make up for the problems I had experienced. I just wanted to set the record straight. They have a really nice website at www.shroomangel.com where you can sample and order some really good quality prog at more than reasonable prices.

Deadwood Forest - Mellodramatic is very good. Produced by Mattias Olsson so that would account for that Crimsonic/Anglagard influence.

I'll go with that, I've just gave it a first listen and quite like what I heard, not too weak for my ears gave it something to go at. I'll can run with the "crimosn" bit, but also lots more in there, even a very IQ bit on I think was the second track but would need another couple of listens to get the full feel. Even a metal feel in parts on King of the skies.

I got it...it's not too shabby and with Mattias Olsson twisting the knobs one can hardly go wrong!

From: "Surjorimba Suroto" <> Yep, I have this album. I bought it when Cranium has it. I really like it and yes, the producer is the drummer of Anglagard. IMO, the music is not like Anglagard. Just a little influence I think. But the music and the mood is really brings us to the 70's.

This was a recent Cranium Music Album of the Month and there are 3 sound samples at the cranium ite you can hear and a review. It was produced by one of the ex Anglagard memebers and has elements of the Anglagard sound, loads of mellotron and a great 'back in time' feel (although recorded only in the last 2 years). I hear elements of the band Caravan in the music as well.

6. DEADWOOD FOREST - Mellodramatic
I was expecting to see dudes in their early-to-mid 30s at ProgWest, and out came these kids. Not really, just in their early-to-mid 20s. Matthias, ex-Anglagard dude, source of inspiration, and fill-in- drummer, was the "old guy" of the group, at 26, LOL! Mellodramatic is down-to-earth, pleasantly contemporary-sounding, has real Mellotron on it, and is refreshingly different from the bombastic, pretentious, keyboard-wankin' type of stuff I typically listen to.
