Curved Air Reviews

From: drj_saro
Curved Air were a band originally put together by record company/management in order to hop on the Prog-Rock band-wagon (who would have _ever_ thoght such a thing!?!)
1. Air Conditioning 1970
2. Second Album 1971
3. Phantasmagoria 1972
4. Air Cut 1973
5. Live 1975
6. Midnight Wirw 1975
7. Airborne 1976
for the first 3 albums (plus the live one) the line-up was... Sonia Kristina - vocals; Francis Monkman - keys; Darryl Way - violin; Ian Eyre - bass (only on 1 & 2); Florian Pilkington Miska - drums. Mike Wedgewood (who would go on to Caravan) replaced IE on bass for 3 & 4. DW left for #4, but would rejoin for 6 & 7. DW's replacement on 4 was Eddie Jobson (4 also featured a guitarist for the first time, known only as "Kirby") Stewart Copeland drummed on either 6 or 7, possibly both. the line-up was unstable for 6 & 7 and was made-up primarily of sessions musicians. the live record is quite raw (as is the BBC sessions which were released on CD sometime in the 90s), and 6 & 7 are uneven (at best), but the first four all feature at least some material that i consider _excellent_, however i don't think any of them are _solid_ albums, they all have at least _some_ weak material. My favourite tracks are 'Vivaldi' from 1, 'Ultra-Vivaldi' from 3, 'Melinda, More or Less' from 3, 'Metamorphosis' from 4.   if anyone wants more details, just ask, i'll do what i can.
