I too have been investigating Argent of late and I must recommend the later
albums. The early '70's stuff is really bluesy, turgid, plodding, and
shouty, somewhat similar to Badger or Bloodrock; however, the 1974-1976
albums like "Nexus," "Circus" (seemingly something of a concept album), and
"Counterpoints" are altogether much faster and lighter, almost jazzy affairs.
Rod Argent asserts himself as a keyboardist, and his band is downright
nimble. By this point, Argent had more of a prog-fusion sound. From an
e-progperspective, I'd say these later albums have much more appeal.
